From 6 – 8 March 2014, the Singapore Ice Hockey Association welcomed 16 teams from all across the globe to participate in the 9th Singapore Invitational Tournament. Split into 3 divisions, the teams set out to achieve glory over their brothers in sport.
Each division saw fierce competition, with every team battling intensely to progress pass the group stage. Leads came and went with hard-fought passion; every puck was chased down and every shot blocked, but a team can only do so much until the horn goes – at the end of the day, there can only be one winner.
After 2 days of competition, the finals saw six teams progress to the finals – Yellownifes against Flying Farangs, Suwon Eagles against Singapore Ace, and Manimals against Singapore Hawkers.
As with any finals game, every team went all out trying to best their opponents on the scoreboard. The atmosphere in the rink was as electric as it could have been; tension was high, with eager eyes scrutinizing every play made. That tension is broken, however, when celebrations erupt with jubilance with every goal scored from the ice and the stands, where spectators and fans cheered on their respective team’s efforts.
Although only one team can hoist the champion’s trophy after all the competition, everyone was a winner thanks to the organizers of the competition and most importantly, its sponsors. Without the contributions from our generous private donors, as well Hewlett-Packard, GlaxoSmithKline and Smokey’s BBQ, the tournament could not have been as successful as it was.
Once again, a big shout out to our anonymous donors as well as sponsors Hewlett-Packard, GlaxoSmithKline and Smokey’s BBQ – thank you for making our days with your generous contributions.
