Men’s National Ice Hockey Team Set for SEA Games 2017

Offering a Free Learn to Play Ice Hockey Session Sunday 30 July / Introducing Ice Hockey in Singapore Schools 

Singapore, 28 July – Singapore Men’s National Ice Hockey team is set to compete at the 29th Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) in Kuala Lumpur. To generate awareness for the SEA Games and ice hockey, the team will be hosting a Learn to Play ice hockey session Sunday 30 July 7:30pm at The Rink at JCube – free to all to participate and no experience required. In other news, the members of the team have been visiting local primary schools in a very well received program to introduce ice hockey to students.

SEA Games 2017
Ice hockey will feature for the first time ever at the SEA Games. The Singapore Men’s National Ice Hockey Team will be competing against Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines and Malaysia from 20-24 August 2017. The team’s first match is vs Thailand at 8:00pm, 20 August. Singapore is expected to put up a serious challenge at the event and will be contending for a medal. Learn to Play  
In its drive to help develop ice hockey in Singapore, the Singapore Ice Hockey Association will host a free Learn to Play ice hockey session hosted by the Singapore National Men’s and Women’s teams at The Rink at JCube, this Sunday 30 July, 7:30pm-9:30pm. Participants of all ages are welcome to join the on the ice session and interact with the players. It’s a great opportunity to try skating, passing, stick-handling and shooting a puck – no prior on ice experience is necessary (not even skating experience). The National Ice Hockey team players will be available to meet and greet participants.

The next Learn to Play session with the National Team players is Sunday 27 August, 7:30pm-9:30pm. It’s certain to be a great opportunity to engage the Men’s Team players after the SEA Games.

School Engagement
In the lead up to the SEA Games, members of the Singapore Men’s and Woman’s National Ice Hockey teams have been visiting schools to introduce students to the sport and share their journey to become players representing their country. This week, players visited the Fengshen Primary and Corporation Primary schools. Third Major Tournament of the Year
The SEA Games is the third major tournament for the Singapore Men’s National Ice Hockey Team in 2017. The team competed at the Asian Winter Games at Sapporo, as well as the IIHF Challenge Cup of Asia in Bangkok.
