THE ICE DRAGON’S APPROACH
The Singapore Ice Dragons program training will be following the ADM (American Development Model), the USA Hockey’s player-development program for youth hockey associations.  It’s based on age-appropriate, age-specific competition and training for boys and girls, beginning with their first steps onto the ice and carrying them through age 18 and beyond. The ADM places a heightened emphasis on skill development and long-term athlete development principles, providing a blueprint for the best possible youth hockey experience.
For more information about the ADM:

–Hockey Canada LTPD (Long Term Player Development model) https://www.hockeycanada.ca/en-ca/hockey-programs/coaching/ltpd

ICE HOCKEY IN THE TROPICS  | VENUE- THE RINK@JCUBE
The Singapore Ice Dragons Program trains at The Rink@JCube Mall, 3rd Floor.  The SID program is part of Singapore Ice Hockey Association and is operated by volunteer coaches and parents.

It is important to bear in mind that available ice time is precious and hard to come by in Singapore to accommodate the needs of the budding ice hockey player.  The Rink is the home to many organizations and their facilities are hired by figure skating, speed skating, Singapore National Team Women’s and Men’s teams, public skating and corporate events.

For players coming from established ice hockey markets, please give yourself time to adjust expectations of Ice Hockey in Singapore.  The Singapore Ice Dragons maximizes the resources to the best of its abilities and enables ice hockey at the youth development and competitive level to be available for kids in Singapore.

The Selects hockey Program is for the serious hockey players in mind and of any age.  For the 2019-2020 Season, players qualified for the Selects Program through try-out sessions in August 2019.  The Singapore Ice Dragons will not conduct another tryout for Term 2.

Selects players who qualified before Term 1 may continue their training at the Selects level for Term 2.

The Selects program will provide practice and game mix as needed to support the development of skills and readiness for tournament play.  The USA hockey ADM model focuses on smaller area games with less number of players per team.  Doing this maximizes player involvement in game situations and we will use this thinking and players can expect that our coaching strategy will also provide practical tactics that are age appropriate. Full ice games will be utilized occasionally, but the focus of player development in the Selects program will be using the ADM model.

Players in the Selects program are eager to improve with already sound technical skills, a good understanding of individual hockey tactic skills and team tactics. Selects players need to commit to attending at least one out of town tournament in the 2019-2020 season. The Selects Training Program is a pilot program and will be re-evaluated at the end of Term 2 and subject to change for the 2020-2021 season.
