THE ICE DRAGON’S APPROACH

The Singapore Ice Dragons program training will be following the ADM (American Development Model), the USA Hockey’s player-development program for youth hockey associations.  It’s based on age-appropriate, age-specific competition and training for boys and girls, beginning with their first steps onto the ice and carrying them through age 18 and beyond. The ADM places a heightened emphasis on skill development and long-term athlete development principles, providing a blueprint for the best possible youth hockey experience.
For more information about the ADM:

–Hockey Canada LTPD (Long Term Player Development model) https://www.hockeycanada.ca/en-ca/hockey-programs/coaching/ltpd

ICE HOCKEY IN THE TROPICS  | VENUE- THE RINK@JCUBE

The Singapore Ice Dragons Program trains at The Rink@JCube Mall, 3rd Floor.  The SID program is part of Singapore Ice Hockey Association and is operated by volunteer coaches and parents.

It is important to bear in mind that available ice time is precious and hard to come by in Singapore to accommodate the needs of the budding ice hockey player. The Rink is the home to many organisations and their facilities are hired by figure skating, speed skating, Singapore National Team Women’s and Men’s teams, public skating and corporate events.

For players coming from established ice hockey markets, please give yourself time to adjust expectations of Ice Hockey in Singapore. The Singapore Ice Dragons maximises the resources to the best of its abilities and enables ice hockey at the youth development and competitive level to be available for kids in Singapore.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS

Level I – Playing Ice Hockey, Initiation and Fundamentals of Hockey Program
Sundays 8:15AM – 9:15 AM

This program is designed for beginner hockey players.  This program will focus mostly on technical skills. Each week players will rotate through skill stations to work on different technical skating skills and basic hockey tactics.  This program is designed for:

Players of any age who are in their first year of hockey and need to work on skating skills and basic hockey skills.

Players in their second or third year and wish to continue improving skating skills and hockey skills.

Coaching in these sessions will focus on developing skating skills in quick repetitions. Skating fundamentals, speed, agility, balance, and coordination will be emphasised in different stations that players rotate through. Small games will be used during or at the end of practice to emphasise the skills taught in that session.  In this program, players will spend 85% of their time on the introduction and development of technical skills, and 15% of their time working on individual hockey tactic skills.

U10s
Mondays and Thursdays 5:15PM – 6:15 PM
2x weekly training OR 1x weekly Training, Mondays or Thursdays only

This program is designed mostly for players 10 years of age or younger.  However, older less experienced players are welcome to join this program on the coach’s approval. This program will be divided into a practice session and game session.  Practice sessions will be on Monday’s and Games will be on Thursday’s. Thursday’s games will follow the USA hockey ADM model which focuses on smaller area games with less number of players per team, maximising on player involvement in game situations.

Players signing up for the U10s program should be proficient in the skills taught in our Initiation and Fundamentals program or equivalent program from another organization.  In the U10s program, players will spend 75% of their time continuing to develop technical skills, 15% of their time working on individual hockey tactic skills, and 10% on team tactics.

U12s
Mondays and Thursdays 6:15PM – 7:15PM
2x weekly training

This program will be divided into a practice session and game session.  Practice sessions will be on Monday’s and Games will be on Thursday’s. Thursday’s games will follow the USA hockey ADM model which focuses on smaller area games with less number of players per team, maximising on player involvement in game situations.  The ice will be divided in half most Thursdays to allow coaches to run two smaller games with players of similar skill to play together. Full ice games will be used occasionally, but the focus of player development in the U12s program will be using the ADM model.
